In 2011, I watched a documentary that profoundly changed me and my entire mindset forever.
At the time, I was working as a Software Engineer in San Francisco, surrounded by ambitious 20-year-olds running around on steroids, trying to change the world and be the next Mark Zuckerberg.
Everyone fuelled by the dream of going “IPO” without even questioning why in the first place.
Then, this documentary called "Something Ventured" came out, and everything clicked.
It tells the story of the creation of an industry that went on to become the single greatest engine of innovation and economic growth in the 20th century.
It also unveils the stories of its Founding Fathers and their incredible mindset.
Watching it planted a seed in me, and six years later, I became a VC.
These Founding Fathers established the rules that have remained unchanged to this day.
Believe it or not, even after 70 years, VC pretty much operates the same way: carried interest, LP/GPs, GP commitment, 10-year fund cycles...
