Back in 2020, I co-founded Climentum Capital, one of Europe’s first fully dedicated climate impact funds.
Impact measurement back then? A mess.
Everyone was talking about it. Few really understood it. And almost no one had a clear way to measure what “impact” actually meant.
Reporting was complex. And you basically needed a PhD to make sense of it all.
Five years later?
Still mega confusing.
The problem we never fixed
For years, I’ve been craving a simplification of the whole system.
Regulators should make it easier.
Or someone should finally democratize measurement and make it plain simple — so that funds, family offices, and investors can actually understand the tangible outcomes of their investments.
Because let’s be real: imagine realizing five years later that none of your “green” investments had any positive impact. How ridiculous would that be?
And yet, that’s happening.
All the time.
Hundreds of millions are being poured into “climate” deals that turn out to have zero or even negative impact.
Then, someone cracked it
Two years ago, Leslie Kapin from Astanor Ventures reached out to me with something new: the Impact Valuation Hub.
Astanor, Summa Equity and Wire Group came together to coordinate their fund-level approaches to impact valuation and created the Impact Valuation Hub.
Check out their work. For the first time, it makes sense.
