4 out of 5 corporates have no idea how to achieve their climate goals 🤯
A climate goal without a plan is a green fairy tale.
It's greenwashing.
Sadly, Corporates are competing in using sneaky campaigns and insidious messages.
That's not just wrong, it's plainly criminal.
What do the numbers say?
Despite its public commitment to sustainability, Deutsche Bank remains the second-largest investor in fossil fuels in the EU.
Siemens Energy is involved in projects that significantly contribute to global emissions, completely negating their stated decarbonization goals.
Green fairytale castles stretch as far as the eye can see.
This greenwashing goes beyond corporate misrepresentation.
It shapes public perception and obstructs real climate action.
Worse.
It fosters a harmful complacency, in which the need for immediate and significant action is weakened by misleading promises of “green progress”.
Carbon Offsetting is a prime example
The idea is that you buy certificates equivalent to your emissions, and somewhere on the other side of the world, someone is doing something with trees or bogs.
Problem is. It doesn’t work…
The Greenwashing machinery is in full swing.
False ideas are involved in the marketing of incorrect solutions.
I would assume that most people suspect that those solutions won't work.
And deep down, everyone who works in a job or for a company that is greener in appearance than in reality knows that it’s only a distraction.
Yet, they still do it…
Okay, not everyone has the freedom to choose their workplace.
But many people do.
And now, more than ever, when qualified workers are in high demand everywhere.
If you can, quit!
If you have the choice, invest your ideas, your creativity, your time, and your choices elsewhere.
Now, more than ever, we need people who create and promote real solutions.
Here are 5 steps to land your dream job in Climate.
We need people who, with all their creativity, show us what a good and free life can look like when we genuinely protect the climate, not just pretend to.
Conclusion
Much more interesting than the CO2 footprint is the CO2 handprint.
What you do all day.
What you do with your lifetime, your vision, your energy.
Where you go every day, for eight hours.
That is the big question that we have to ask ourselves in this decade.
No longer setting long-term goals and 2050 career plans.
"When I retire, I'll do this."
"When I take my sabbatical at some point, I'll do this and that."
"At some point, I might be able to."
Nonsense.
The period until 2030 is crucial. These are the pivotal years in which we must intervene.
We are all looking around the world for role models.
Be one.
